Media library

Every picture and video you upload or make in Postra is kept in your media library. The library belongs to your workspace, so everyone in it sees the same files.

Open it from Media in the main menu. The newest files come first. When there are more files than fit on one page, use the page numbers at the bottom.

An empty library says You don’t have any media yet and offers Upload and Create in Studio.

Upload files

  1. Click Upload and pick one or more files. You can also drag files onto the page.
  2. A bar shows the progress. To stop a large upload, click Cancel upload.
  3. When it finishes, the files appear in the library.
Type Formats Largest file
Pictures PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP 30 MB
Videos MP4 1 GB

One upload can be up to 1 GB in total. A bigger batch stops with Upload size limit exceeded. Maximum 1 GB per upload session. Upload the files in smaller groups instead.

If a file has the wrong type or is too big, Postra tells you which file and why, and does not upload it.

Find a file

Type in Search by file name. Postra searches the name the file had when you uploaded it, and capital letters do not matter. The name shows under each file.

If nothing matches, you see No media matches your search. Try a different name, or clear the search to see every file.

Look at, edit and delete files

Hover over a file to show its buttons:

Create in Studio, next to Upload, opens Studio to make a new graphic. For everything Studio can do, see Media, Studio and AI.

Delete a file

  1. Hover over the file and click the red icon.
  2. Postra asks Are you sure? It uses the same wording for pictures and videos: Are you sure you want to delete the image?
  3. Click Yes, delete it! to delete, or No, cancel! to keep the file.

The file leaves the library straight away, for everyone in your workspace.

Posts that already use the file are not affected. A scheduled post still goes out with it.

The stored copy is not erased at once. After 30 days, Postra removes it, as long as nothing in Postra still uses it, such as a post or a Studio design. Until then, a direct link to the file may still open it.

Use your files in a post

In the Create Post window, click Insert Media. The Media Library window opens with the same files.

  1. Click the files you want. Each one gets a number, which is its place in the post. Click a file again to unselect it.
  2. To add a new file, click Upload or drag it into the window. A file you upload here is selected for you.
  3. Click Add selected media.

For more ways to add media while writing, see Writing a post and Media, Studio and AI.

Alt text and video thumbnails

After you add a file to a post, hover over its thumbnail under the text and click the settings icon. Media Settings opens.

Alt text and the thumbnail are saved with the file in your library. The next time you pick that file for a post, they come with it.
