Connect your assistant

Before you start

  1. You need a paid Postra plan, and you need to be an owner or admin of the workspace.
  2. In Postra, open Settings → Developers → Access.
  3. Under MCP Client Configuration, pick your assistant. Postra shows the same settings as on this page with your API key filled in. Choose Reveal to see the key, or Copy to copy the whole snippet.

In the snippets below, replace YOUR_API_KEY with your API key. The server address is always:

https://app.postra.co.uk/api/mcp

A config file with your key in it is a secret. Do not commit it to a shared repository.

If you build an app for other Postra users, use their OAuth access token (pos_...) in place of the API key. See Sign in with Postra.

ChatGPT and Claude (in the browser)

ChatGPT and Claude on the web connect without an API key. You sign in to Postra and approve the assistant.

  1. In Postra, open Settings, then Developers, then Remote servers (ChatGPT, Claude), and copy the address. It is https://app.postra.co.uk/api/mcp-oauth.
  2. In ChatGPT or Claude, add a custom connector and paste the address.
  3. You are sent to Postra. Sign in if you need to, then check the assistant’s name, where you go back to and which organisation it gets access to. If you are in more than one, pick the organisation there. Then click Authorize.
  4. The assistant can now use Postra for that organisation.

To cut the assistant off, open Settings, then Approved apps, and revoke it. Your API key and your other tools are not affected.

Only an owner or admin can approve, and only for an organisation on a paid plan or its free trial.

Check that it works

  1. Restart your assistant or reload its MCP servers.
  2. Ask it: “Which channels do I have in Postra?”
  3. It should list your connected channels.

If it fails, check the error against the table on What MCP is.

If your key changes

Rotate Key in Settings → Developers → Access makes a new key and stops the old one. Put the new key in every assistant you connected.
